CLIMATE RESILIENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE
Climate change is adding a whole new dimension to how we approach designing and building our communities, including the concept of resilience for buildings and the entire network of infrastructure that underpins our quality of life. These factors have a direct impact on our safety, security and ability to recover from natural and human-made disasters.
Not only does “carbon efficiency” need to be integrated into decision-making, but we also need to be planning for a future of less predictable, and likely more extreme, weather.
Advances in lifecycle assessment and predictive risk assessment tools can help decision makers balance multiple factors including cost, carbon, and resilience to optimize investments.
The cement and concrete industry is working with leading academics and research institutes to advance and promote these tools and to better understand the vital role of concrete in a low carbon and resilient built environment.
